Personalised Christmas Ornaments a Family Tradition
What are some of your fondest Christmas
memories? Preparing mince pies with your grandma, opening up Christmas cards,
hanging personalised Christmas stockings, eating treats like Christmas crackers
and figgy pudding, or sneaking kisses under the mistletoe, all top people's
list of time honored traditions with their loved ones. One tradition that
nearly every family celebrates with Christmastime is the tree trimming!
of The Christmas Tree
Christmas tree decorating began in northern
Europe over 1000 years ago, but was not made a tradition in the UK until the
early 19th century. Prince Albert decorated an evergreen tree in Windsor Palace
in 1841 and thus began the tradition of using evergreen trees in home across
the UK. You may be surprised to know that early Christmas trees were hung
upside down from chandeliers or ceiling hooks! It's safe to say that today,
most people enjoy their Christmas trees in a stand with a personalised
Christmas tree blanket and beautiful decorations, standing on the ground.
The history of the Christmas is also said
to have origins in Christianity when St. Boniface, who was front a village in
Devon, UK called Credition, went on a mission to Germany where he preached and
tried to convert the Pagans to Christianity. The story tells of St. Boniface
finding a group of Pagans worshipping an oak tree and about to sacrifice a
child. St. Boniface chops down the tree to save the boy and from the stump
springs an evergreen fir tree! The saint believes this to be a sign of the
Christian faith and God and his followers decorate the tree with candles so
that he could deliver God's message to the Pagans that night.
Modern decorations seem to have sprung from
glass makers in the early 17th century Germany who created small glass balls to
be hung with the edible items they normally decorated their Christmas trees
with. Baby Jesus was the first ornament to top a tree, but overtime an angel or
star became more popular. In modern times, Saint Nicholas also tops Christmas
trees in many homes. Candles were used to decorate trees frequently in the
Victorian age and many families in Europe still use them today (although many
people opt for the electric candles rather than live fire).
Christmas tree candles caused many fires,
including burning down a hospital in Chicago in 1885. The tragedies inspired an
Spanish teenager in New York the idea of using electric lights on Christmas
trees. The teenager, Albert Sadacca, and his brothers formed the NOMA Electric
Company, the most famous Christmas lights company!
Christmas For Your Family
Many Christmas traditions are fairly
uniform across the UK--decorating a tree, opening presents, hanging Christmas
stockings, eating puddings, turkey, and Mince pies. Families often look for
ways to make their family traditions personal to them. Children raised with
personal family holiday traditions have fond memories of their family at
Christmastime growing up and often pass down those traditions to their own
children. Family traditions are just as personal as your surname and something
that your kin can be proud of and celebrate.
One great way of personalizing Christmas
for your family is with personalised Christmas ornaments. Starting with your
baby's first Christmas, parents can include a new ornament--personalised for
the child that year, that is gifted on tree trimming night. As children get
older, this tradition brings about excitement for getting their special gift
and nostalgia. Opening the decorations that have been stowed away and forgotten
the entire year and revisiting the ornaments from previous years as they are
hung on the tree can be a great family bonding moment.
Other ways of personalizing Christmas for
your family include:
Personalised tree skirts
Participating in 12 days of
Christmas or Advent gifting traditions
Reading a special story on
celebrations as a family
Christmas morning breakfast
Writing letters to Santa
Visiting Christmas markets
Baking special cookies or
Personalised Christmas pajamas
for the family
Taking family holiday photos
Having a special place to
celebrate Christmas such as Grandma's home, the family cabin, or as a family
Any way that parents can make a holiday
feel special and exciting for children can be a part of your personal
traditions. Families celebrate the holidays in many different ways which is
part of what makes each family unique. Asking your children what they would
like to do and incorporate into family traditions will delight your kids and
make them feel special.
of Personalised Christmas Ornaments
There are thousands of different Christmas
ornaments that can be found online or in retail stores. The options seem
endless and choosing ornaments for a tree can be a daunting task. Personalised
Christmas ornaments make the task of tree trimming easy and memorable for
family members. You don’t have to choose a theme for your tree if you are
decorating it with family memories every year!
Personalised Christmas ornaments are fun to
gift because you are letting the person you are gifting to know that you put a
lot of thought into getting them an ornament that they will not only like, but
is personal to them. Popular ornaments for children include baby's first
Christmas, extracurricular activities they participate in, favorite characters,
or toys that they like.
Many families also choose Christmas themed
ornaments annually and have trees decorated with all Santa ornaments collected
through the years, or North Pole themed with elves and reindeer included also.
No matter what kind of personalised ornaments you choose the important thing is
the memories that you are creating!
Not only do kids and parents enjoy tree
trimming with personalised ornaments, but these decorations make excellent
gifts for other people in your life like teachers, the post man, coaches, and
other people you would like to show appreciate for during the holidays.
Teachers love receiving ornaments that say, "Best Teacher" and
snowmen or Santa's are always good choices for the people in your life you may
not know personally. All you have to do is have their name added and you have a
sweet, personalised gift for everyone!
