Christmas Party Games
If you are throwing a children Christmas party this year, don't be afraid to stick to the old favourites when it comes to games. Although we are in the age of the internet and video games, children still love the chance to play party games!
A particular favourite is pass the parcel and you can make a special version of this for a Christmas party quite easily just by adding a few extra surprises.
Wrap your prize in a layer of Christmas paper, then between each layer make up a challenge/dare/prize for the children to carry out. E.g. Challenge: hop on one foot 20 times without falling over, Prize: Unwrap an extra layer. The more layers and challenges, the longer the game will go on for.
When the guests are ready to play, get them to sit in a circle and give the parcel to a player. Start playing Christmas music and instruct the players to hand the parcel to the person to their left until the music stops. Once it stops, the person holding the parcel gets to unwrap a layer and complete the challenge or take the prize.
The overall winner is the person who gets to unwrap the final layer and keep whats inside!
Game 2 to play while Personalised Christmas Stockings are hanging waiting patienty
This is a treasure hunt game that is fantastic to play at family parties as it will be enjoyed by all ages.
You'll need to buy eight reindeer toys or pictures, or nine if you want to include Rudolph.
Tell the guests the following story: 'Santa's reindeer had a party last night, which was the eve before Christmas Eve and now Santa doesn't know where they are and he needs your help to find his reindeer!'
Now you must hide the reindeer around your party venue, making sure that some are easy to find and some are really tricky to find.
Each guest is then given a piece of paper and a pencil so that they can write down the location of the reindeer. The person to find all eight or nine reindeer will win a prize. Its a good idea to set a timer so that the winner is the person who finds the most reindeer in the time allocated.
If you want to give everyone a prize (might be a good idea if you are hosting a childrens party) ask each player to name one of the reindeer and give them the prize you allocated earlier to the reindeer they picked.
Give your Christmas party table the wow factor
If you are throwing a Christmas dinner party this year, or simply want to impress friends and family with an extra special table for Christmas lunch, simply follow our suggestions below:
Decide on a colour scheme for everything on your table, from the table cloth to the plates to the napkins.
Tie organza ribbon around your napkins to add more colour to your table setting and tie these in with your colour scheme.
A simple centerpiece can be made by filling a glass vase with baubles in the colours of your scheme. Use different sizes and shapes and choose matt and shiny decorations to really make this funky centerpiece stand out.
Bring the outdoors indoors by foraging for some free table decorations in a nearby park or in your garden. Holly, ivy and pine cones work particularly well and can even be spray-painted to fit in with your scheme.
Offer favours to your guests in the form of homemade festive chocolates or homemade biscuits in the shape of Christmas trees or Christmas stockings. A little gesture like this goes a long way in making sure your guests remember the effort you went to with your table setting.
